Using Your Own Metal Detector Verification Standards? Here’s What to Expect with TraceSafe Verification

At TraceSafe Solutions, we provide third-party metal detector verification services that help you stay compliant with SQF, ISO, GMP, and FSMA standards—quickly and reliably. Whether we supply the test standard or you use your own, our job is to make sure your system is audit-ready with proper documentation, traceability, and results you can stand behind.

If your team prefers to use your own internal test piece, that’s perfectly acceptable—provided we can confirm a few key details. We’ll ask for a copy of the NIST traceable certificate, including the standard’s serial number, size, material type, and expiration date. If a certificate isn’t available, we’ll note that on the verification record and advise accordingly.

We’ll also ask how the test standard has been handled. To ensure traceability, the probe must be stored in a clean, protective case, free of physical damage or visible wear. If the standard has been used repeatedly in training, dropped, or stored loosely, it may not qualify for verification. Our job is to make sure everything meets audit expectations.

Our on-site and virtual metal detector verification service goes beyond simple calibration. While calibration ensures your detector is aligned with factory specs, verification shows that the system actually detects threats in live conditions. That’s why it’s important that the test standard—yours or ours—is traceable, current, and appropriate for the product and detector sensitivity.

During the verification, we’ll observe and document the placement of the standard, the detector response, and whether the system’s rejection mechanism is functioning correctly. We’ll also record the product being run, the detector model and serial number, and the outcome of each test. You’ll receive a full verification report that’s audit-ready, with optional video evidence upon request.

If your test piece is expired, unmarked, or lacks documentation, we can either issue a temporary verification note or ship you a fresh, certified NIST traceable standard overnight. Our job is to help you stay ahead of audits, recalls, and risk—without slowing your production down.
